A Place at the Table

The intention
An outdoor table that is genuinely used — shade in the middle of the day, room to move around the chairs, and one clear route from the kitchen.
The arrangement
A simple timber frame shades the table, planting runs along the boundary, and the step out from the house is wide enough to carry a tray.
The materials
Three illustrative material choices, kept to a small number so the space stays calm.
Sawn oak frame
An open structure over the table — shade in summer, and pleasant to look at in winter.
Stone terrace
A level, forgiving surface for chairs, with a wide step down from the house.
Climbing planting
Vines and shrubs along the boundary, softening the edge of the terrace.
Concept diagram — not a construction drawing.
The terrace organised around the table: shade above, planting at the boundary, one wide route out from the house.
