02 / Front garden, used after dark
An Evening Garden

The intention
A garden that works in the evening, when it is actually used — light placed so paths read clearly and planting keeps its shape after sunset.
The arrangement
Small uplights sit inside the planting beds, a gravel path curves to the front door, and the darkest corner is left deliberately dark.
The materials
Three illustrative material choices, kept to a small number so the space stays calm.
Warm-white uplights
Fittings placed in the beds rather than on the walls, so the light appears to come from the plants.
Fine gravel
A quiet, well-draining surface that keeps footsteps and edges legible at night.
Slatted timber screen
Depth and privacy without the weight of a solid fence.
Concept diagram — not a construction drawing.
Where the light sits: three fittings inside the beds, aimed up through the planting rather than across the path.
